Welcome to Sunflower Farm - where all the romance of farm life is still very much a reality. Looking for delicious local cheese made in small daily batches? You have come to the right place. May-October, our feta, chevre, yogurt, caramels, fudge, truffles and cajeta are available in our self serve farm shop. Come check out what is available, then relax a bit and watch the goats grazing in the field.

We smile when folks visiting ask us if all the goats have names. Not only do they all have names, they all have distinct calls we know even from the kitchen, they each have preferences for their favorite treats, and places they most love to be scratched. In the milkroom, each mama has their own approach to our time together: Plum likes to be milked without her head closed in to the head gate. Belle insists that she be milked one side at a time. After Rhubarb is milked, she waits on the milk stand for a few minutes of love before she is ready to hop down and go about her day. And Sweet Pea looks right at our kitchen window and calls us to the barn each morning while we are getting our coffee brewed.

There are lots of hot words in the sustainable food movement. Some mean very different things depending on who is using them and for what purpose, but for us, “local” dairy products are unique because each bite is intimately connected to the way the animals at our farm live. Even a town over, the goats are eating different grass, enjoying a different breeze, their milk is not from Claire and Radish and Cinnamon. We find great joy in sharing our lovely goats with visitors so that when they eat our chèvre or feta or yogurt or caramels, they taste even better because they are remembering a sunny summer day in the field with our herd. Hopefully you can taste the love.

Kid Snuggling at Sunflower Farm

•GOAT KID VISITING HOURS We will be open to the public for free visiting: Sunday 12-2 April 28th, Sunday 12-2 May 5th and Sunday 12-2 May 12th and will have a food truck so you can get a snack and a snuggle all in one place. Also, you can come to see all the kids any weekend after we open the shop which will likely be on May 25th if we have enough milk.

Visitors of all ages are welcome! So far our oldest visitor was 99!

PLEASE READ INFO BELOW.  
Visiting goat kids in the spring is free, but donations to the farm are welcome and used to support our no cull farming approach, barn cam and visiting hours. Please talk to your kids about these important expectations before your visit so that they have the best time at the farm possible and we can continue to invite visitors. 


•Do not open any gates or go into any pens unless you are greeted by a member of the Hall family.            

•Please park only on one side of road and driveway so that neighbors can get through.  We are up Harmon Way to the left, the road beyond the fork is private.  

•If you decide to take little ones into the goat yard, we have one goat named Greta who occasionally headbutts little kids. She looks like a zebra and is just a little shy, so if kids can keep an eye on her and treat her extra kindly that would be great  

•Goats have no top teeth, but even kids have sharp molars, so  avoid putting your hands in the goat's mouths. 

•We ask anyone in the pasture to walk super slowly and take a seat to visit goats that approach you. Many of them are due to kid and we want to be sure they are not stressed out by anyone chasing them. 


•Please leave all dogs at home. They are goat's biggest predator and even small ones can scare the herd. 

•A growing number of people have been arriving each spring to snuggle the babies which we love, but to keep it from getting too nutty in the barn, we encourage each person to take one turn holding a kid each visit and then to head out to see the bigger goats so there is plenty of room in the barn for people waiting a turn.

•For the safety of our herd, please do not enter pens with boots or shoes that have been to another farm. We are very lucky to have a healthy herd and work hard to keep it that way. 

•There seems to be a growing number of ticks in Maine, please check yourself for any ticks after sitting in the field (just in case).
